“No republic is safe that tolerates a privileged class or denies to any of its citizens equal rights and equal means to maintain them.” — Frederick Douglass

AMENDMENTS: JUNE 17 – JULY 24, 2026

The fear that is warranted must be exceeded by the courage that is necessary.

To enhance the space for continued conversations regarding our past, present, and future, I am proud to present these six paintings (inspired by the 13th, 14th, and 15th Amendments of the United States Constitution).

The Reconstruction era typically refers to the period of United States history between 1865 and 1877. During this time, the United States federal government attempted to reform former Confederate states and ensure the civil and political rights of former slaves using a series of constitutional amendments known as the Reconstruction Acts.
